We are looking for an experienced investigator to join our National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. This role involves leading and coordinating investigations into serious environmental crimes, working with Partnership Organisations, and developing investigative teams and complex investigations.
Location notes: Birmingham, Kingswinford, or other Environment Agency offices within the region (hybrid arrangement).
Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate investigations into serious and complex environmental crimes, from identifying lines of enquiry to casefile preparation and prosecution.
* Coordinate evidence gathering, interviews, review intelligence, raise and allocate actions, and drive cases forward in collaboration with Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room.
* Work on cases involving Organised Crime Groups, illegal waste exports, and large-scale fraud; contribute to development of the team and management of investigations.
* Ensure high standards of attention to detail and maintain strong verbal and written communication skills; use investigative legislation knowledge (PACE, CPIA) as required.
* Support training and development of investigation teams; contribute to continuous improvement in investigative techniques and processes.
* Contribute to incident response planning and participation as needed in incident roles.
Qualifications and Skills
* High level of attention to detail; hard-working and self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
* In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA; basic IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams).
* Knowledge of environmental crime; experience leading serious criminal investigations and workings of a Major Incident Room desirable.
* Experience driving, self-motivation, initiative, and building/developing investigation teams; ability to find solutions.
* Successful completion of SC and NPPV2 Vetting processes within a 6-month probationary period.
* Full driving licence required.
