An established independent accountancy practice is looking to appoint a Head of Accounting Services to take ownership of a core function within the firm. This role sits at the point where delivery, leadership, and client ownership meet. It offers responsibility for a significant portfolio alongside direct involvement in how the function is structured, managed, and developed. The position is suited to an experienced Manager seeking greater influence and autonomy, or a Senior Manager looking to step into a more defined leadership role within a less layered environment. The Role Responsibility for a portfolio of non-audit clients, typically up to £10m turnover Oversight of statutory accounts, management accounts, and associated advisory work Leadership of a team of approximately 12, with accountability for structure, performance, and development Ownership of the payroll function, ensuring compliance and consistent delivery Acting as the primary point of contact for clients, providing commercially focused support Working closely with Partners on workflow, resourcing, and service standards Input into operational and strategic decisions affecting the wider business services function The Candidate ACA or ACCA qualified Strong background within general practice, ideally focused on business services Track record of managing a client portfolio and reviewing work to a high standard Experience leading and developing teams across multiple levels Commercial awareness with the confidence to engage directly with SME clients Exposure to payroll oversight would be beneficial
