Are you a talented multiskilled engineer looking to make a real impact at the UK’s only Arla cheese packaging site?
At Oswestry, you’ll help ensure our machinery runs at its best so we can continue feeding the nation with the dairy products people love — from Cravendale to Skyr to Anchor.
How You Will Make An Impact
At Arla, you’ll join a supportive team with a strong focus on development and collaboration. Oswestry is a unique site that covers eight acres of land and packages more than 350 different product types. We deliver 99.8% of customer orders on time, and if we lined up all the 20kg cheese blocks processed here in a year, they would outline the entire UK coastline.
As a Senior Shift Engineer at Arla’s Oswestry Packaging facility, you will play a key role in keeping our operation running smoothly within a fast‑paced, highly automated manufacturing environment. You will be the main point of contact between the shift team and the senior management team while you maintain, repair, and improve the equipment that allows us to produce high‑quality, tasty, and nutritious products for millions of consumers.
You will also take part in continuous improvement, support project activity, and help drive long‑term reliability across the site.
* Responding to breakdowns and ensuring a timely and effective resolution
* Completing planned preventative maintenance to minimise downtime
* Supporting CI initiatives and site‑wide improvement projects
* Installing, commissioning and optimising equipment and machinery
* Supporting colleagues with fault finding and upskilling staff
You will be based at our Oswestry Packaging site in Shropshire, working a 3‑on 3‑off shift pattern (days & nights, 6–6).
What Will Make You Successful
You’ll bring both technical capability and the drive to make a difference. You enjoy solving problems, thrive in a fast‑moving manufacturing environment, and work collaboratively to achieve shared goals. We are looking for someone with strong experience as a multiskilled engineer—whether as a Shift Engineer, Maintenance Engineer or Engineering Technician—and with mechanical and electrical engineering expertise within manufacturing, production or process environments.
You will hold an NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience gained in a fast‑paced engineering setting. Ideally, you will also have experience working with fast‑moving machinery, pumps, valves, inverter drives, sensors, relays, Siemens PLCs, site services such as steam plants, chilled water systems and compressors, as well as CIP systems. Strong IT skills are essential, including SAP, Microsoft Office, SCADA, Trend systems and HMIs. You will also have time‑served experience as a multiskilled engineer within a manufacturing environment.
What do we offer?
We’re committed to your growth and development, offering internal and external training opportunities. You’ll enjoy a competitive salary, 24 days holiday, matched pension contributions up to 6%, life assurance, and flexible benefits. At Oswestry, you’ll join a team proud of its high job satisfaction and steep learning curve, with plenty of challenges and support to help you succeed.
