Role Overview
The Project Manager will be responsible for the successful delivery of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from early design development through to commissioning and final handover. Acting as the Principal Contractor, the Project Manager will oversee the full lifecycle of projects including design coordination, procurement, civils construction, mechanical and electrical (M&E) installation, testing, commissioning and client handover.
The role requires strong leadership across multidisciplinary teams, effective subcontractor management, and robust control of programme, cost, quality, and contractual obligations to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
*
Lead the delivery of BESS projects from design phase through construction, commissioning and handover.
*
Manage the full project lifecycle including civils, electrical infrastructure, battery installation, and associated balance of plant.
*
Ensure compliance with programme milestones, budgets, quality standards, and contractual requirements.
*
Coordinate design development with consultants, OEMs, and internal engineering teams.
*
Oversee commissioning activities and ensure successful project energisation and client acceptance.
Programme & Planning
*
Develop, maintain and manage the project programme in line with contractual milestones.
*
Identify risks to programme delivery and implement mitigation strategies.
*
Coordinate sequencing of civil works, electrical installation, and equipment delivery to ensure efficient construction progress.
Subcontractor Procurement & Management
*
Identify, evaluate and select subcontractors across civil, electrical, and specialist installation disciplines.
*
Manage subcontractor procurement processes including scope definition, tendering, and commercial evaluation.
*
Oversee subcontractor performance including progress, quality, safety and contractual compliance.
*
Chair regular progress and coordination meetings with subcontractors and supply chain partners.
Commercial & Contractual Management
*
Manage contractual obligations under the main contract and subcontract agreements.
*
Work closely with the commercial team to manage budgets, cost forecasting, and change control.
Stakeholder & Client Management
*
Act as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
*
Provide regular project updates, progress reports and programme reviews.
*
Coordinate with grid operators, consultants, and regulatory bodies as required.
Health, Safety & Compliance
*
Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with CDM regulations and company health & safety policies.
Reporting & Documentation
*
Produce regular project reports covering progress, risks, commercial status, and programme.
*
Maintain project documentation including programmes, risk registers, and contractual records.
*
Support lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives following project completion.
What you’ll need:
* CSCS, SSSTS/ SMSTS
* HNC / Degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
* Understand civil &/or electrical engineering principles and practices
* Knowledge of FIDIC
* Excellent organisation and problem-solving skills
* Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders
* A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across your operational region
