Offer description

An opportunity has arisen in our Senior Leadership Team for the role of an Interim Named Midwife for Safeguarding.

This is an excellent opportunity to assume this leadership role. Candidates should have experience in children safeguarding and be practicing at safeguarding practitioner level at Bart’s Health.

The candidate will possess knowledge of current legislation and statutory guidance related to safeguarding, supporting women, people, and children. Ability to seek advice on complex issues from within the wider Bart’s Health team and support from the Associate Director of Safeguarding is essential.

The role involves leadership on operational governance, working alongside the maternity quality and safety team, and leading a small team of safeguarding midwives who specialize in caring for vulnerable women and families.

The post-holder will ensure compliance with requirements set out in Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023), incorporating elements of the Children Acts 1989 and 2004, and the Care Quality Commission Core Standards.

They will demonstrate advanced skills to influence care pathways in safeguarding women and children, working closely with hospital and group-level named professionals to meet statutory responsibilities.

The post involves initiating and contributing to research in safeguarding to promote evidence-based practice, along with managing and developing designated safeguarding areas, assessing, developing, and evaluating care programmes, and monitoring standards in line with Trust priorities.

The role includes leading the design and modification of care pathways aligned with maternity service changes within the areas of responsibility.

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, with Newham University Hospital (NUH) serving approximately 5,000 births per year in East London. NUH is progressing into the Sustainability Phase of the Maternity Safety Support Programme and is close to achieving the Capital Midwife Anti-Racism Framework Bronze Award.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals renowned for excellence, innovation, and providing safe, compassionate care. We aim to deliver high standards of harm-free care and ensure patients receive the right care at the right time. We are committed to being an outstanding place to work, guided by our WeCare values and behaviours.

We promote inclusion and a sense of belonging for all staff, valuing diversity and supporting an inclusive working environment.

We particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian, and minority ethnic candidates, as they are underrepresented within Barts Health at this band.
