Role Summary: A senior, client-facing role responsible for both the design and hands-on installation of network and IoT infrastructure in residential and commercial properties. The right person can translate a client's vision into a technical solution, then see it through to completion on-site. Responsibilities: Conduct site surveys and consult with clients to understand their smart home/IoT requirements Design network and IoT system architectures tailored to each property (residential and commercial) Install and configure structured cabling (Cat6, fibre optic) and wireless infrastructure (mesh Wi-Fi, access points) Commission and integrate IoT devices and AV systems, ensuring seamless interoperability across all installed platforms Design, install, and configure lighting automation systems including scene control, scheduling, and integration with wider smart home platforms Install and commission CCTV systems including IP cameras, NVRs, and remote viewing setup Deploy and configure access control solutions including electronic door locks, intercoms, keypads, and access management software Integrate and programme smart HVAC systems including connected thermostats, zoned climate control, and energy management automation Set up and configure voice automation platforms (e.g. Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple HomeKit) and integrate with installed smart home systems Source, install, and configure IoT sensors (motion, environmental, occupancy, leak detection) and integrate into automation workflows Specify, build, and manage networking racks including patch panels, cable management, switches, and labelling to a professional standard Install, configure, and maintain smart home servers (e.g. Home Assistant, Control4 controllers, dedicated NAS/server hardware) as the central hub for property automation Configure network equipment (routers, switches, VLANs, firewalls) to support IoT environments Ensure cybersecurity best practices are applied to all smart home/IoT installations Carry out testing, handover, and client training on installed systems Diagnose and resolve connectivity and device faults on-site Maintain accurate records of designs, installations, and site documentation Mentor and support junior technicians where required What We're Looking For: Minimum 7–8 years' experience in network installation or smart home/IoT systems Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, Wi-Fi standards, subnetting) Proven experience designing and delivering IoT or smart home solutions Ability to read and produce technical drawings and system schematics Excellent client communication and problem-solving skills Valid driving licence Desirable but Not Essential: Relevant certification (e.g. CompTIA Network or equivalent) Familiarity with smart home platforms (e.g. Home Assistant, Control4, or similar) Project management experience
