Overview
This is a high‑profile Community Payback Placement Coordinator role within the Probation Service, responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with a range of partner organisations, customers and stakeholders in the North East region. The role involves supporting the Community Payback Manager, ensuring all placements meet policy objectives and comply with relevant legislation, and carrying out weekend working as part of the normal working pattern.
Key Responsibilities
* Find and assess a wide range of suitable Community Payback placements, including those providing opportunities for service‑user training and future employment and placements appropriate for people with protective characteristics.
* Assess the viability of income‑generation opportunities within new placements, discuss with beneficiaries and manage the process to maximise this potential.
* Prepare and maintain a schedule of safe‑working practices and project files in accordance with health and safety standards.
* Promote positive relationships with beneficiaries and stakeholders through meetings, site visits and effective customer service.
* Ensure a safe working environment for staff, service users and beneficiaries at all placement sites in compliance with health and safety legislation and organisational policy.
* Maintain placement compliance with quality requirements and take action to improve or discontinue placements where standards cannot be met.
* Coordinate tools, equipment, PPE and other resources on placement sites and ensure safe use.
* Provide health and safety training to staff as required and support investigations into incidents.
* Liaise with probation practitioners and other stakeholders to exchange information and support cases.
* Assist with rota planning, service‑user induction and training of CP supervisors and beneficiaries.
* Cover CP supervisor duties when required to avoid cancellation of work placements.
Qualifications / Requirements
* UK Manual Driving Licence (full manual licence required – automatic licence only will not be accepted).
* Experience in community‑based work placements, or similar, with a strong understanding of healthy and safe working practices.
* Knowledge of community networks and ability to promote a strong team ethos.
* Evidence of maintaining positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders (beneficiary organisations) and representing them at meetings and forums.
* Experience of conducting workplace reviews and judging compliance with quality standards and health and safety legislation.
* Qualifications such as IOSH Level 3 or Managing Safely, NVQ assessor experience, or equivalent.
* Ability to drive a Minibus D1 and trailer (where applicable).
* Strong communication, influencing and influencing skills.
* Working knowledge of health and safety legislation and the ability to keep work sites compliant.
Weekend working is expected when required to cover CP supervisors or to visit project sites (e.g., schools not accessible on weekdays).
Applicants will be paid a higher rate for any weekend days worked.
Salary: starting £26,475 per annum.
