Residential Child Care Support Worker
Location: Wigton
Contract Type: Full-time, permanent
Specific Hours: hours per week - shift pattern
Salary: Unqualified: A base salary of £, per annum with the potential to earn up to £, with sleep-in shifts. Qualified: A base salary of £, per annum with the potential to earn up to £, with sleep-in shifts. (Qualified Care Worker salary is based on the proven existing completion of a Level Diploma for Residential Childcare)
North Lakes Children’s Services is a well-established local provider of residential care and education for boys aged -. We aim to improve resilience, self-esteem, and abilities.
As a Residential Support Worker, you are expected to be “strong, committed, and passionate”. You will be a role model, a listening ear, and someone who can inspire and make a significant impact on a young person's life. You will support the creation of “happy memories” and have fun with the young people.
We seek permanent Support Workers with a warm, approachable manner who can positively influence young people's recovery from early life experiences.
Main Duties
Each home has detailed shift planners/diaries/handover documents outlining specific daily duties. During term-time, duties include:
* Supporting boys’ daily routines, including hygiene, meals, and activities
* Supporting room cleans, life skills, independence, and socialization
* Attending medical/other appointments
* Supporting activity plans
* Completing day sheets and working on targets
* Completing handover documents and daily paperwork
* Managing budgeting and shopping needs
* Conducting room checks and housecleaning
* Meal preparation and kitchen hygiene
* Performing checks like COSHH, fire, and vehicle checks
* Building relationships with families and planning family contacts
Additionally, you will be a Keyworker, building strong bonds and creating opportunities for the young people.
All Applicants Must Have:
* Flexibility for sleep-in nights and shift work, typically full days on, days off, with rotating start times: 8 am, noon, or 3 pm
* An understanding of issues faced by young people in care
* Relevant qualifications or willingness to work towards them (e.g., Diploma in Residential Childcare, Children and Young People's Workforce, NVQ Level in Health & Social Care)
* Excellent communication and listening skills
* Willingness to learn and work as part of a team
* Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check (paid for by us)
* Experience with EBD, social/residential work, or youth work is advantageous
* A full, clean UK driving license and flexibility to cover other residential homes as needed
