Environmental Crime Officer (Water Industry) - 30909
Join our new water industry enforcement team and take the lead in addressing serious and complex environmental issues within the water industry. Bring your enthusiasm and experience in regulation, enforcement, or investigative work, and play a pivotal role in driving positive change.
Guided by a Senior Environmental Crime Officer, you will undertake investigations, gather and critically analyse evidence, and deliver impactful enforcement actions. Your contributions will include preparing detailed, high-quality case files that empower the Environment Agency to take decisive action against underperforming sites.
Responsibilities:
* Investigate environmental offences, support site inspections, and gather evidence.
* Analyse data and materials from inspections to identify potential offences.
* Write and collect witness statements.
* Exhibit evidence and conduct interviews under caution with suspected offenders.
* Complete training in water industry regulation and accurately identify offences and impacts.
* Prepare case files and disclosure schedules in line with relevant legislation.
* Provide evidence in court when required.
* Liaise with other agencies and local authorities.

You can be based from Farnham, London Abbey Wood, Reading, Wallingford, or Welwyn Garden City.
The Team:
Based in our South East enforcement hub, working closely with water companies to improve compliance and environmental standards through investigations and enforcement activities.
Required Skills and Experience:
* Experience in an investigatory or regulatory role, with knowledge of evidence collection and case file production.
* Experience working with customers.
Desirable Skills:
* Understanding of environmental legislation (e.g., Environmental Permitting Regulations, Environment Act).
* Knowledge of investigative legislation (e.g., Police and Criminal Evidence Act).
* Knowledge of corporate investigations.
* Ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues and external partners.
