Who are we looking for?
As our Senior Quantity Surveyor Risk & Compliance Specialist, you’ll play a pivotal role in supporting and guiding our commercial teams across the business. Acting as a trusted advisor, you’ll provide clear contractual and commercial direction, helping teams make confident, informed decisions while ensuring our commercial procedures are consistently followed, strengthened and evolved.
You’ll be at the heart of risk management throughout the full project lifecycle – from early inception through to successful completion – proactively identifying, managing and mitigating risk to protect both the business and our projects. This is a highly influential role for someone who enjoys shaping best practice, adding real value and making a visible impact across a diverse construction portfolio.
The Detail
Leadership, Governance & Best Practice
* Act as a trusted commercial and contractual advisor across the business, promoting best practice, collaboration and continuous improvement.
* Own and evolve commercial procedures, templates and governance controls, ensuring compliance is clear, practical and embedded.
* Support Directors with contract approvals, highlighting key risks and providing clear, concise advice.
* Contribute to targeted training, briefings and high level risk reporting to support informed decision making.
* Review tenders and contract documentation, identifying key risks, opportunities and contractual obligations.
* Support pre construction teams by shaping risk mitigation strategies and contributing to risk and opportunity schedules.
* Assess design responsibilities, insurance, bonds and employer risk profiles to ensure commitments are achievable and understood.
* Attend tender meetings where required to ensure risks are clearly agreed before contract award.
Project Delivery & Post Award Support
* Provide ongoing contractual and commercial guidance throughout delivery, including change control, design liability, payment mechanisms and claims.
* Support project teams with contract notices, correspondence and evidence in line with NEC / JCT requirements.
* Assist with dispute avoidance and resolution by providing balanced, pragmatic advice.
* Monitor emerging risk indicators and drive timely corrective action.
Supply Chain, Commercial Control & Insurance
* Oversee subcontract procurement and approvals, ensuring risk is appropriately flowed down and governance standards are met.
* Ensure subcontract payment processes comply with legislation and internal controls.
* Participate in monthly CVR / MCR reviews, supporting consistent forecasting and reporting.
* Review project and corporate insurances, working closely with brokers to ensure contractual alignment and early risk awareness.
* Thorough understanding of the construction industry, financial reporting and contractual terms and conditions.
* Good analytical skills and ability to apply common sense in all situations.
* People management and good communication skills.
* Proficient in Microsoft, Word, Excel and Outlook.
* Proficient, timely and accurate data entries.
* Degree / HND in Quantity Surveying, Construction Law / Management or related discipline; or equivalent experience.
