We are a major UK civil engineering contractor specialising in the repair and maintenance of wastewater sewer networks, including deep excavations, confined space operations, and reactive/emergency works. We’re looking for a Health & Safety Advisor who can support our teams on the ground and help us continuously improve our safety culture.
What you’ll be doing
* Carrying out regular site inspections, providing clear reports and practical recommendations.
* Ensuring compliance with UK legislation including the Health and Safety at Work Act, CDM 2015, PUWER, LOLER, COSHH, and Confined Space Regulations.
* Supporting the development, review and implementation of company H&S procedures and safe systems of work.
* Supporting operational teams with the development of site‑specific H&S documentation
* Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and advising on corrective and preventive actions.
* Assisting with SSIP accreditations, H&S competence assessments and preparation for external/internal audits.
* Working collaboratively with site teams, clients, and subcontractors to maintain consistent, high safety standards.
What you’ll bring
* At least 3 years’ H&S experience in civil engineering, utilities, or construction.
* NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate or NVQ Level 3 equivalent (essential).
* TechIOSH or working towards IOSH membership (desirable).
* Strong working knowledge of UK H&S legislation and industry best practice.
* Excellent communication and report‑writing skills.
* Confident, proactive, and able to influence at all levels.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple sites and priorities.
* Full UK Driving Licence
