HVDC & FACTS Field Service Engineer

We are looking for a self‑motivated service engineer in power electronics able to manage service contracts, site activities and to support/participate in commissioning of FACTS & HVDC equipment.
This is a key position in GE’s Service organisation; you will lead the technical portion of multi‑year service contracts, support customers in different countries and be part of a community of experts who support global customers on high‑technology equipment.

* SVC, Static Var Compensation
* FSC, Fixed Series Compensation
* SC, Synchronous Condenser
* STATCOM, Static Compensation
* LCC HVDC, High Voltage Direct Current
* VSC HVDC (Onshore & Offshore)


Responsibilities

* Perform and lead maintenance, onsite activities and technical support on FACTS or HVDC transmission systems.
* Manage preparation for site activities in coordination with end customers.
* Perform commissioning activities on FACTS or HVDC transmission systems.
* Lead the technical portion of service contracts running over several years.
* Attend and lead customer meetings, identifying solutions that meet needs.
* Have knowledge and ability to carry out FACTS projects of minor renovations/upgrades.
* Support the ITO team as needed during tenders for the technical part.


Technical Knowledge

* Technical knowledge and site experience with switching equipment, harmonic filters and instrumentation transformers.
* Technical knowledge and site experience with FACTS equipment (with Thyristor and IGBT); knowledge of rotating machines is a plus.
* Technical knowledge and site experience with commissioning of protection relays.
* Technical knowledge and site experience with troubleshooting, using network recorders and/or analysers.
* Technical knowledge and ability to resolve incidents on site and analyze logs and curves.


Abilities

* Good ability and culture in EHS; strictly applying EHS rules during site incidents or under customer pressure.
* Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems.
* Ability to document, write reports, and plan site activities.
* Notions of project management.
* Management of on‑site teams.
* Excellent customer management skills, especially on site during an incident.
* Ability to work in a team and share knowledge and experience with colleagues: strong “Team player”.


Required Qualifications

* Engineering degree or “house engineer” in power electronics.
* Demonstrated engineering background and technical understanding of power electronics.
* Demonstrated experience in a relevant / identical position.
* In‑depth experience on drives or FACTS or HVDC equipment (valves + control + protections).
* Availability to travel up to 50% (with potential 100% site assignments during training and later during short periods).
* Language and communication skills (fluent English).
* Existing clean UK driving license required for all applicants.
