Overview
Engineering Design Manager (manufacturing) role based in Liverpool. Working for a growing, well established manufacturing company.
Responsibilities
* Lead and develop the technical team in the design and development of enclosures and housings.
* Support the commercial function of the business with technical input for both new and existing customer or technical enquiries.
* Be the main point of contact for design queries for clients or internal team members.
* Lead the technical design process for both new and existing products which require modification including preparation of CAD drawings.
* Identify and deliver cost savings through value engineering without compromising existing integrity or quality of the product, from materials and labour perspectives, including designing new products for manufacture to optimise cost.
* Manage the company's technical database, ensuring that all products have the appropriate technical drawings that are up to date and accurate.
* Facilitate altering and renewing drawings when required.
* Project/time management to visualise workload and plan accordingly to meet customer and internal expectations.
* Utilise Simulation (FEA) to ensure products are not over engineered while maintaining structural integrity and quality.
* Research new technologies/ideas to enable proactive innovation and market leadership.
* Create standard ranges of product streams in assembly and sub-assembly format to enable modular quoting and support further customization.
* Identify appropriate suppliers for new materials or components to meet quality and price requirements.
* Utilise the Group CRM system to capture interactions with new, existing and potential customers.
* Liaise with operational teams to ensure product is designed for manufacture in line with customer expectations.
* Work with the operational team to ensure appropriate testing processes are followed and certified where required (e.g. Loler, Electrical, in-house inspections).
* Collaborate with manufacturing and assembly departments to provide advice, guidance and problem-solving support as required.
* Prepare purchase orders and submit order requests to procurement for processing and follow-up with vendors.
* Work with existing suppliers to ensure materials are delivered to specification.
Profile / Qualifications
* Fully versed and experienced in the use of 3D CAD design (Solidworks/AutoCAD).
* Understand multi-material manufacturing technologies, processes and installation; metal fabrication and welding exposure is advantageous.
* Good understanding of existing manufacturing capabilities and limitations to ensure products are designed for efficient production.
* Able to communicate clearly with internal/external stakeholders and with customers and suppliers.
* Innovative thinker who can bring solutions to the table.
* Ability to work independently, self-motivated, but also able to work well in a team.
* Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
* Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
Offer
£50,000 to £55,000 plus car allowance and benefits
