Job Title: Managing Quantity Surveyor

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial team. This is a key leadership position responsible for the end-to-end commercial management of a portfolio of projects within the water sector, ranging in value from £5 million to £20 million.
Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager, the Managing Quantity Surveyor will oversee a team of 3–5 commercial professionals and drive best practices in cost management, contract administration, and client engagement.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide commercial leadership across a portfolio of complex infrastructure projects.
* Take full ownership of commercial management from pre-construction through to final account.
* Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors and Senior Quantity Surveyors.
* Administer IChemE contracts with the Client via CEMAR, ensuring all contractual obligations are met, including variations, payment applications, and early warning notices.
* Influence and build strong relationships with clients, fostering trust and repeat business.
* Drive commercial performance and margin improvement, with clear strategies to minimise disallowed costs and cash exposure.
* Deliver accurate, timely monthly reporting including CVRs, WIP, client forecasts, and variance analysis.
* Manage procurement activities for your portfolio of projects in line with company standards.
* Ensure adherence to internal governance and contractual obligations.
* Conduct site visits and Senior Manager Tours to monitor progress and identify commercial risks.
* Negotiate Works Order Contracts while ensuring compliance with internal policies.
About You – The Ideal Managing Quantity Surveyor
Essential:
* Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
* Proven experience in a similar Managing Quantity Surveyor role.
* Strong background in utilities, civil engineering, or MEICA sectors.
* Track record of leading and developing teams.
* Proficient in IChemE contracts and contract management systems (e.g. CEMAR).
Desirable:
* Chartered status with RICS or CICES.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills.
* Comfortable working in a hybrid environment and making site visits as needed.
