The Role: Corporate Risk Solutions Portfolio Director
M&G Life covers over 5 million customers with more than £300 Bn invested across all of its products and wrappers, and has an ambitious growth plan for 2025 and beyond. M&G Life operations work with a number of partners including Equiniti, Diligenta, Waystone, Paragon, Willis Towers Watson, as well as M&G Global Services supporting our in-house operation.
Role Overview:
As a Portfolio Director, you will lead the delivery of complex, high-value transformation portfolios (£15m–£50m) across multiple business areas. You will be accountable for driving strategic outcomes, ensuring portfolio health, and delivering measurable business value. This role requires a confident, commercially astute leader with deep experience in both technical and non-technical change, and a pragmatic approach to delivering transformation at pace.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Own and lead the end-to-end delivery of transformation portfolios, ensuring alignment with strategic business objectives.
2. Manage direct reports including Heads of Delivery, Project Managers, and Business Analysts; oversee dedicated PMO resources in collaboration with the Head of Enterprise PMO.
3. Shape and influence strategy with business sponsors, aligning resources across Technology, Finance, and other SMEs.
4. Lead governance forums including Steering Committees and Senior Leadership Forums.
5. Ensure portfolio health through OKRs, RAG status management, and regulatory compliance.
6. Drive benefits tracking and realization in partnership with PMO.
7. Champion best practices and standards in delivery, working closely with the Head of EPMO and Head of Change Excellence.
8. Build and maintain strong relationships across C-suite, ExCo, and functional leadership.
9. Navigate ambiguity with confidence, prioritising effectively and challenging constructively.
Candidate Profile
10. Proven experience leading large-scale transformation portfolios in complex organisations.
11. Strong commercial acumen with a focus on outcome and value delivery.
12. Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments and driving clarity.
13. Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills at senior levels.
14. Deep understanding of both technical and non-technical change (e.g., OD design, digital transformation).
15. Financial Services experience highly desirable.
16. Professional qualifications such as CFA, actuarial, or accountancy are advantageous.
17. A pragmatic, self-starting people leader who holds teams to high standards.
