We are looking for a Head of Communications and Public Affairs who shares our values of integrity, trust, independence and putting the public's voice at the heart of what we do.

The Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly is responsible for holding the Chief Constable to account in the largest geographical, two-county police force in England.The Commissioner has team of staff led by a Chief Executive who are committed to delivering high quality services to our public across policing, crime, public safety and criminal justice.
You will work closely with the Commissioner and have the ability to showcase stories to make a visible impact. Working in a public office you will want to demonstrate the public voice in influencing the decision making to improve public safety. In this role you will be the key communications and public affairs advisor for the organisation.
As the Head of Communications and Public Affairs you will lead and manage the multi-disciplinary communications and engagement team, tactical media handling and customer services across the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC). You will be an integral part of the senior leadership team and manage both internal and external communications promoting and maximising public confidence and improvements delivered through the Police and Crime Plan.You will help shape the strategic direction of all the work of the OPCC to ensure transparent, effective and impactful communication with the public, the media and key stakeholders.
This is a full-time position. We are based at the Devon & Cornwall Police headquarters site at Middlemoor, Exeter, although there is a requirement to travel to other locations across the force area for specific events and engagement activities.The post holder will be primarily based within the OPCC offices in Exeter to support the Police and Crime Commissioner and the Chief Executive, but there is flexibility to occasionally work from home.This is a full-time role, and unsuitable for job share.This is a political restricted position under the Local Government and Housing Act.
