Job Summary
Based at our East Cowes facility, the Tool Conformity Engineer will be responsible for fault-finding, maintenance, and repair of composite and assembly tools (including jigs). They will perform inspections, recertifications, and stamping of tools to ensure conformity, following Work Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures, while maintaining safety standards. The role involves inspecting tooling from the Tooling MRO department, certifying compliance, and releasing tools back to operations via the company workflow system (e.g., Fiix or Job Card). The engineer will also identify concerns, raise issues immediately, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen).
Job Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include:
* Conducting and authorising tool conformity assurance activities—surveying, manufacturing, maintenance, and recertification of tooling across the site.
* Promoting a positive work environment by role-modeling safety-first behavior, Kaizen mindset, and supporting colleagues.
* Holding themselves and team members accountable to embody GKN culture principles.
* Performing tasks in compliance with standard work and training, reporting safety, quality, or other issues immediately to their Team Leader.
* Adhering to all health, safety, and environmental policies and standards.
* Understanding team KPIs related to People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cash, and Cost, and contributing to their achievement.
* Obtaining Lean Foundation certification and implementing at least one Kaizen per month.
* Supporting problem-solving efforts, sharing ideas based on experience.
* Actively engaging as a team member and promoting collaboration.
* Complying with legal and regulatory requirements, including company policies on equal employment opportunity, ethics, and U.S. government contracting where applicable.
Job Qualifications
Suitable candidates will demonstrate:
* Successful completion of a 3 or 4-year apprenticeship in manufacturing or engineering.
* Significant experience in a similar role, ideally with composite and assembly tooling.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
