Job Summary

Applicants are invited to apply for the position of Consultant General Paediatrician at PRUH site, part of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London. This is a substantive replacement post. The post holder will contribute to the GP joint paediatric clinics and MDT (BCHIP). We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our friendly and innovative team in delivering a high quality service. The successful candidate will work within the multi‑disciplinary team providing and further developing care for Children/Young People from the Child Health services.

There is a commitment to undertake routine job planned work on evenings and weekends as part of the total job planned PAs. There is also an overnight on call commitment. You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent to be eligible for interview.

The post holder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years), therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous convictions.


Main Duties

* The provision of a first‑class clinical service
* Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
* Maintaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with King's College London / KHP
* Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
* Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's service plans
* Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Care Group or the Trust

General Information

* You have a general duty of care for the health, safety and well‑being of yourself, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance responsibilities associated with this post.

* The postholder has an important responsibility for, and contribution to make to, infection control and must be familiar with the infection control and hygiene requirements of this role. These standards must be strictly complied with at all times.

Person Specification

* Essential
o MBBS or equivalent
o MRCPCH or equivalent
o APLS/EPLS provider status, up to date.
o Child Protection training / Safeguarding training (minimum level 3)
o Full Registration with GMC
o Name on GMC Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment
o Wide experience in all aspects of Paediatrics, culminating in award of CCT or equivalent.
o Specialist training in Management and Leadership.
o Experience in day‑to‑day organisation of paediatric haematology services in a busy Teaching Hospital.
o Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills.
o Familiar with current structure of UK National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.
o Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi‑disciplinary teams.
o Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit.
o Must have undertaken and completed audit projects.
o Understand principles and applications of clinical research.
o Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
o Experience of conducting or supporting clinical research.
o Experience of teaching undergraduates, junior doctors and allied health professionals.
o Ability to teach clinical skills.
o Formal training in supervision skills.
* Desirable
o Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD)
o Experience working independently at consultant level in general paediatrics.
o Management course and/or qualification.
o Audit Publications.
o Publication of relevant review articles or case reports.
o Teaching skills course/qualification.
o Experience supervising junior doctors (all grades) Formal training in clinical teaching.
