We are recruiting for a Commodity Buyer who will supply materials at the optimum acquisition cost ensuring quality standards are maintained and departmental goals achieved. The Role: Responsible for maintaining the cost on the Bill of Materials for all products within the commodities you are responsible for and ensuring costs are less than the current sales quotation per contract. Responsible for issuing requests for quotation (RFQ's) for any new parts added to the Bill of Materials within the allotted commodities. Ensure MRP system (SAGE) is accurately maintained with key information including price, lead-time, HS codes etc. Manage the engineering process, to purchase new parts and ensure the suppliers are supplying to the correct revisions of drawings. Act as an escalation point for colleagues with suppliers on key performance indicators - OTIF, quality & invoice queries. Actively contribute to achieving departmental goals and objectives including cost reduction, supplier reduction, risk mitigation, regulatory adherence etc. Initiate and successfully negotiate contractual supplier agreements through to implementation Actively contribute to New Product Introduction projects. Source new suppliers for items within the allocated commodities. Optimise the architecture of the supply chain to minimise the cash conversion cycle. Analyse the total cost of manufacture of parts considering the cost of raw materials, labour costs, machining costs to ensure the company is getting value for money from the supply base. Validate changes in part costs inline with the specifications of those parts, taking into account local and global indices. Support the recovery of money owed from suppliers for non-performance and warranty claims. Strong negotiation abilities with a proven track record Knowledge of MRP systems Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 with advanced knowledge of Excel Experience of interpreting & communicating engineering drawings & specifications Experience of running large RFQs & Tenders under tight timelines The Requirements: 3 years experience in a similar Purchasing role OR Degree level (or equivalent) in a Business, Engineering or Supply Chain Management related discipline Minimum of two years' demonstrable experience working within complex manufacturing environments and processes. At least 2 years' experience sourcing and assessing new supply options, negotiating supplier agreements, and delivering supplier-related changes.
