The business is a leading, family-run business delivering excellence in civil engineering, demolition and site preparation. As the business continues to grow, it is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Management and Financial Accountant to strengthen the finance team and support strategic decision-making.
Role Overview
As the Management and Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in providing timely and accurate financial information, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and enhancing financial control across the business. You will work closely with both operational and senior leadership teams to drive performance and ensure compliance with internal and external reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Management Accounting
1. Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports
2. Analyse performance vs budget/forecast, providing insightful commentary
3. Maintain cost centre reporting and assist operational teams with financial queries
4. Assist with annual budget setting and periodic re-forecasts
Financial Accounting
5. Support statutory accounts preparation and liaise with external auditors
6. Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed and reviewed
7. Manage accruals, prepayments, and journal entries
8. Monitor fixed asset register and depreciation schedules
Cash Flow & Controls
9. Prepare weekly/monthly cash flow forecasts
10. Support treasury and cash management activities
11. Assist in enhancing and maintaining financial controls and processes
Business Support & Projects
12. Collaborate with project managers to ensure financial accuracy of job costing
13. Drive improvements in financial systems, reporting tools, and dashboards
14. Support ad hoc analysis and business case development
Skills & Experience Required
15. Qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
16. 3+ years' experience in a similar accounting role (construction or engineering sector advantageous)
17. Strong Excel and financial modelling skills; experience with accounting systems (e.g., Sage, COINS, or similar)
18. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
19. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
