Your new role
In this exciting role you will be responsible to the Fleet Engineering Manager for the investigation of maintenance and safety related vehicle defects and subsequent engineering solutions to ensure contractual reliability targets are achieved and maintenance practices implemented / improved. Also responsible for those activities relating to design modifications and subsequent applications for customer / regulatory approval for changes.
This role can be based at either our Craigentinny (Edinburgh), Doncaster or Bounds Green (London) train maintenance centres.
Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:
1. Responsible for investigation of maintenance and safety defects for vehicles and ensuring compliance with customer and UK legislative requirements.
2. Responsible for implementing the maintenance plan at the depot level.
3. Assist production staff with more complex technical problems.
4. Liaise with systems engineering teams on specific technical issues.
5. Build relationship with key technical and service providers and OEMs.
6. Assist in the development of documented engineering procedures, practices and policies.
7. Assist in the co-ordination of continuous improvement programmes to ensure contractual requirements are achieved and exceeded.
8. Assist in optimising the Company’s maintenance regime and assisting in the development of best European / World Class maintenance practice in support of current and future contracts.
9. To liaise with Procurement / Maintenance Team members during the assessment and approval of new material suppliers to ensure that Maintenance, H & S and environmental needs are adequately identified / addressed.
10. Work closely with the Reliability Engineers and Performance Technicians to identify the root cause of defects within the shortest possible timescale.
11. To confirm that traction and rolling stock assets comply with operational specifications by the use of engineering processes and techniques.
12. To modify or manufacture traction and rolling stock components by material or processes.
13. To modify or manufacture traction and rolling stock hardware and software components.
14. Production of Depot Safety Case reports / documentation in liaison with Engineering Manager, Duty Fleet Managers and QHSE Manager.
15. Deputise for Engineering Manager during holidays / periods of absence.
16. Liaison with Hitachi and external personnel as required to complete the duties of the post
17. Assist as required.
About you
Essential
Licences / Competences
18. Position holder must be able to interface effectively with all levels of personnel both within and outside the company.
19. Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel
Qualifications
20. HND or equivalent qualified engineer.
21. Previous experience in product improvement and reliability engineering on UK rolling stock.
22. Membership of a recognised accredited engineering body.
Behavioural
23. Sound knowledge of, and compliance to, rules and regulations.
24. Good written and verbal communication skills.
25. Able to represent Hitachi in a professional manner at all times.
26. Good team worker.
