Role: HR Shared Services Manager (Advisory)

Sector: Higher Education

Duration: Contract until 31st July 2026

Location: Buckinghamshire

Salary: up to £55,755 - depending on experience

Sellick Partnership is currently recruiting for an experienced HR Shared Services Manager to join our public sector client on a fixed-term contract until 31st July 2026. This role is offered on a hybrid basis with a minimum of 1 day a week onsite.

The HR Shared Services Manager will lead the people/hr advisory support and administration teams to deliver service excellence to all colleagues across the organisation. The ideal candidate will act as the first line support and recruitment operations manager, supporting the PS Hub leadership team in leading and managing the HR Shared Service operation.


Duties of the HR Shared Services Manager include:

1. Leading, managing, and developing a team of Team Managers to build and retain a highly engaged and capable team through attraction, training, and development of skilled professionals to meet business needs.
2. Actively managing the day-to-day operation of the operational teams, ensuring key business targets, SLAs, and KPIs are met to ensure the quality, credibility, and legal and technical compliance of services provided.
3. Overseeing workload allocation and capacity planning to ensure customer responses are efficient and effective via their channels.
4. Communicating with individuals and teams to share information and direction, maximizing productivity and quality standards.
5. Managing resource challenges, minimizing absence and attrition wherever possible.
6. Ensuring teams are skilled to complete employment changes and provide accurate information, advice, and guidance that meet customer needs.
7. Ensuring end-to-end process documentation is up to date in a process library.
8. Developing and evolving the advisory service to remain effective and efficient, meeting colleagues and organisation needs.
9. Supporting the Senior People Services Operations Manager to embed a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring high-quality and efficient delivery of employee lifecycle transactions and advice.
10. Contributing to the evaluation and development of service standards to ensure operational excellence.
11. Partnering with internal and external colleagues and stakeholders to promote learning and strong business acumen amongst team members.
12. Supporting ongoing rollout of HR Systems and strategic projects.
13. Acting as a point of escalation, exercising judgment and initiative on complex issues, applying procedures and guidelines appropriately.
14. Supporting the Head of HRSS and Senior HR Operations Manager in data analysis and performance MI.


Ideal Candidate:

* CIPD Level 7 qualified or equivalent, or qualified by experience.
* Experience within higher education or wider public sector is beneficial.
* Essential experience in a HR Shared Service environment.
* Proven leadership and management of operational advisory teams in HR Shared Services.
* Experience driving performance and service improvements during periods of change.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to utilize performance data and metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
