The Directorate of Estates and Facilities Management (E&FM) are responsible for the management and day-to-day running of the University estate and ensures essential services are in place for all who work, study and visit Glasgow Caledonian. E&FM are also responsible for the strategic planning and transformation of the University estate to a modern, responsive and sustainable built environment that enhances student, staff and visitor experience and host community experience- enabling the University to perform its core purpose of delivering high-quality Learning & Teaching.
In the next 4 years the University will invest significantly in our Glasgow and London campuses via several planned capital investment projects, planned maintenance projects and multiple maintenance works and interventions. This will define the shape and form of a 'fit for purpose' campus that is vibrant, productive and connected.
We invite applications for an experienced commercial Electrician to join the E&FM Directorate on a 1.0FTE (35 hours per week) full-time basis due to the promotion of the existing post holder and the continuing maintenance management needs at the Glasgow campus. This role will support the Directorate in the development of an Asset Management approach for the maintenance management of the University's estate which include buildings, architectural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing and drainage assets. This role would be ideal for an experienced Electrician with commercial experience in maintenance or installations.
Working with the Electrical Supervisor and the Maintenance Manager, the postholder will ensure the efficiency and safety of our electrical installation, distribution systems and related equipment. This will be for planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and support of minor works and projects. The post holder will also work alongside our maintenance contractors in electrical, fire safety and other related systems. This will ensure that high standards of workmanship and maintenance standards are adhered to providing the expertise and experience necessary to support contractors carrying out essential maintenance.
This post is essential to support the safe, compliant and comfortable operation of the campus services ensuring the University's interests are promoted with contractors carrying out works on behalf of the University. In addition, this appointment builds resilience, knowledge store and succession planning within the maintenance team.
Experience of working in a similar role in a Higher Education environment would be advantageous.
