Job Summary

Due to an exciting period of growth, we are now seeking an Aircraft Inspector to join the team in our Defence manufacturing facilities, right here on the beautiful Isle of Wight.

As an Inspector, reporting into one of our Group Leaders overseeing a particular value stream, you’ll join the team and take responsibility for the verification of product characteristics and associated manufacturing documentation and other quality records, utilising a range of inspection techniques and methods including, but not limited to, visual, mechanicals, automated, contact and non-contact.

Working as part of a close team, communication, flexibility and availability to work all shift patterns and overtime as required will also be essential in this role.

You will be expected to actively identify safety concerns, make problems immediately known to your TL, and raise improvement ideas to solve problems (Kaizen).

You will be part of a team that will collectively work on creating a 'Great Place To Work' through a culture of continuous improvement, safe working, and open dialogue.


Job Responsibilities

1. Contribute to their team in creating a "Great Place to Work" by role-modelling safety-first, a Kaizen mind-set, and supporting their colleagues
2. Hold themselves, and fellow team members accountable to embody the GKNA culture principles
3. Undertake all of their tasks in compliance with the standard work and their training, and make any problems; safety, quality, or other, immediately known to their TL
4. Exemplify a safety-first mindset and follow all GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards
5. Understand their team's People, Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cash and Cost Key Performance Indicators and their contribution to them
6. Become certified at the Lean Foundation level and implement at least 1 Kaizen per month
7. Support the team and TL in problem solving, contributing ideas based upon own experience of their tasks
8. Be an active member of the team, promoting collective engagement with each other
9. Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements:

Job Qualifications

Suitable candidates MUST be able to demonstrate:


10. Experience/familiarity in inspection methods and techniques within Aerospace (or very similar) Manufacturing Assembly
11. Working knowledge of LEAN processes and practices.
12. Awareness of AS9100 series requirements, and AS9102 First Article Inspection process
13. A conscientious, thorough and diligent approach to inspection tasks, and the ability to work consistently to written instructions and within specified requirements
14. Attention to detail and the ability to work under own initiative
15. Ability to report any identified non-conformances or non-adherence to documented processes
16. Ability to provide clear and concise written reports on the outputs of inspection activities
17. Effective communication skills
18. Effective problem solving skills
19. Knowledge of PC packages is essential
20. Be eligible to work in the UK
