Description 9‑Month Fixed Term Contract | 50 hrs/week | Upper Tier CoMAH Site Wood is looking for an experienced Permit to Work Authority to join our team supporting a client’s operational fuel storage terminal in Hemel Hempstead. This site handles diesel, gasoline and ethanol, operating 24/7/365, and requires strong Control of Work oversight to ensure all engineering and maintenance activities are carried out safely. In this role, you will act as a key point of safety assurance on site — preparing and managing permits, reviewing contractor documentation, and ensuring strict adherence to the client’s Control of Work processes. Responsibilities Responsibilities Prepare, issue and manage Permits to Work and Confined Space Entry permits in line with the UK Terminals & Pipelines Control of Work Procedure. Review and quality‑check contractor risk assessments and method statements. Ensure all work activities involving working at height, confined spaces, energy isolation, ground disturbance, lifting, or hot works comply with site standards. Conduct or support gas testing and monitoring where required. Maintain clear, proactive communication with contractors, site engineers and shift supervisors. Work closely with the Terminal Operations team to maintain safe, controlled delivery of engineering and maintenance tasks. About the Site Imports fuel via pipeline; exports via road tankers Handles diesel, gasoline and ethanol Classified as an Upper Tier CoMAH installation Home to 40 tankers and 140 drivers Operational 24/7/365 Qualifications Knowledge & Experience Strong working knowledge of Control of Work processes, including: Working at height Confined space entry Energy isolation Lifting operations Hot work Ground disturbance Experience in hazard identification, gas testing and ongoing risk monitoring. Confidence communicating with multiple on‑site teams and third‑party contractors. Qualifications Ideally a qualified Permit to Work Authority and Confined Space Entry Authority under the client Control of Work process. Equivalent qualifications under similar Control of Work frameworks will also be considered.
