Job Summary Position: Consultant Psychiatrist – HMP Chelmsford

Salary: £120,000 – £130,000 per annum (dependent on experience) plus group pension.

Main Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive psychiatric and medical assessments for prison and young offender population.
Deliver assessment, treatment and ongoing management for stable and acute mental health needs.
Prescribe safely and effectively, contributing to key clinical decisions via MDT discussions.
Lead diagnostic reviews, develop treatment plans, and monitor progress.
Drive service development and clinical leadership, supporting senior clinicians and shaping service direction.
Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, prison staff and external partners to coordinate safe, compassionate care.
Working Pattern
Part‑time hours available.
Shifts 9:00 am – 6:00 pm, onsite at HMP Chelmsford.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
GMC registered medical professional.
On the Specialist Register in General Adult Psychiatry or Forensic Psychiatry.
Approved Clinician (AC) status.
Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
Strong understanding of multidisciplinary and multi‑agency working.
Up‑to‑date knowledge in adult psychiatry and personality disorder.
Awareness of current mental health policy, legislation, and service provision.
