Job Summary:
The role of the Ultra Low Latency Network Specialist is to ensure the stability and integrity of all aspects that comprise the Squarepoint global trading collocation network which includes infrastructure in 30 data centre sites across AMER, APAC and EMEA. The Ultra Low Latency Network Specialist will oversee and participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, optimization, and documentation of all network hardware, security hardware, software and connectivity. This includes managing multiple projects and configuring/optimizing the network to ensure ultra-low latency is achieved for intraday trading and direct market access systems. This team collaborates and are closely aligned with trading systems developers, enabling the technology team to deliver an optimal trading platform.
1. Architect, engineer and aide initial deploy of ultra-low latency network infrastructure at Colocation datacentres (DC)
2. Ensure comprehensive operational control and reporting, providing actionable information to optimize the performance of the trading infrastructure. Build/update procedures and documentation
3. Escalation point to support changes to the global collocation environment in all Squarepoint co-location sites and datacentres. Travel may be required
4. Provide L3 escalation support to remediate performance and availability issues
5. Identify areas for generating efficiencies adopting automation and innovative solutions for improvements.
Required Qualifications:
6. 8+ years of experience working with Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Rocky preferred) in a large complex or niche environment with the following areas of focus: operations, systems engineering and systems performance.
7. Deep knowledge of erver Architecture: HP, SuperMicro, Dell, various overclock servers.
8. Low latency network interfaces and kernel bypass (configuration and optimization): Solarflare with onload, Mellanox with VMA.
9. System hardware/OS tuning and performance troubleshooting, understanding of CPU architectures.
10. Experience with build and configuration management tools, specifically Chef or Ansible.
11. Experience with observability tools, specifically Grafana and Prometheus.
12. Highly motivated and a keen eye for scripting and automation in Python, Ruby, and Bash etc.
13. Deep knowledge and experience of server network stack configuration, tuning and troubleshooting including TCP, UDP(unicast/multicast), NTP, PTP, wireshark/tshark
14. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to tackle troubleshooting the unknown, glitches and the obscure.
15. Well-organized, proactive, resourceful, able to handle a fast-paced environment, question the status quo, accountable and possesses an ownership mindset.
16. Good understanding of trading venues such as Nasdaq, LSE, Euronext etc.
17. Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related experience.
Nice to have:
18. Kernel development with ability to modify stock kernels adding custom features.
19. Trade flow analysis: Understanding protocols used by various exchanges: FIX, BOE, OUCH/ITCH, PILLAR, SBE, OMEX
20. Experience with configuration management tools i.e. Ansible, Chef, and Terraform.
21. Familiarity with different network switch vendors and different switch architectures.
22. Experience with working with FPGA based applications and L1 network design.
