Role: DV Network Engineer (Incident Management Focus)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced DV Network Engineer with a strong background in incident management and operational support to join a high-performing team delivering mission-critical services across MOD and secure defence environments.
This role is heavily focused on network stability, incident response, and service continuity within highly secure, classified environments. You will play a key role in identifying, managing, and resolving high-impact network incidents, ensuring minimal disruption to critical operations.
Working within a fast-paced, security-cleared environment, you will collaborate with technical teams and defence stakeholders to maintain and improve the resilience of complex Cisco-based infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as a key escalation point for Major Incident Management (MIM) across secure network environments
* Provide Level 2 / Level 3 support for critical network incidents, driving issues through to full resolution
* Lead and support incident triage, root cause analysis (RCA), and post-incident reviews
* Monitor network performance and proactively identify risks to service availability
* Work closely with Service Management teams to ensure SLA adherence and incident reporting
* Support and maintain Cisco network infrastructure (routing, switching, SD-WAN, ACI where applicable)
* Implement fixes, workarounds, and permanent solutions to prevent repeat incidents
* Contribute to runbooks, knowledge base articles, and operational documentation
* Participate in on-call rota and out-of-hours incident response
* Ensure all activities align with MOD security policies and operational standards
Essential Requirements
* Active Developed Vetting (DV) clearance – mandatory
* Proven experience in incident management / BAU support within secure or defence environments
* Strong hands‑on experience with Cisco networking (routing & switching essential)
* Experience operating within ITIL-aligned service environments (incident, problem, change)
* Strong troubleshooting capability across protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, STP
* Experience conducting root cause analysis and producing incident reports
* Ability to remain composed and effective in high‑pressure, high‑severity incident scenarios
* Strong stakeholder communication skills, particularly during live incidents
Desirable Skills
* Experience working with Cisco SD-WAN or ACI environments
* Exposure to network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, etc.)
* Automation/scripting (Python, Ansible) for operational efficiency
* Knowledge of network security and secure architecture principles
* Higher‑level Cisco certifications (CCNP/CCIE)
