We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivatedOphthalmology Consultant with Medical retina, Neuro-ophthalmology and Oculoplasticsub-specialty skills to join our dedicated and professional multi-disciplinedophthalmic team. Applicants will be expected to have broad generalOphthalmology experience with a proven track record of high-volume cataractsurgery.
You will be a highly valued member of the team bringingyour expertise and skills to a busy Ophthalmology department. Thepost will be complementary to the current sub-specialty interests of MedicalRetina, Neuro-Ophthalmology, Uveitis, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus andCornea.
The service is supported by an expanding number ofSpecialty Doctors, Orthoptists and Specialist Nurses.
This is a consultant post at 1.0 WTE including2 theatre session, outpatient clinics, admin and SPA. This post does have an on-call requirement:First on call one night a week 5-9pm and second on call 1:4 Weekends - 9am to9pm.
Main duties of the job
You will work as part of the Ophthalmology Department and are expected to provide a high-quality service and ensure excellent patientcare.
Main Responsibilities include:
(a)ClinicalServices:The appointed clinician will, together with Consultantcolleagues, be responsible for the planning, delivery and improvement of clinical care in Ophthalmology at Barnsley Hospital.
(b)Trainingand Education:Contributeto the teaching of other grades of staff,both with in and outside the department,including medical staff, nurses, paramedical staff and scientific and technical staff.
Consider a role as Educational Supervisor/ Clinical Supervisor for Specialist Registrars, Core Trainees, FoundationDoctors.
(c) Clinical Governance:Thepost-holder will be expected to demonstrate continuing improvements to thequality of service provided within the framework of the Trusts ClinicalGovernance arrangements.
(d)Management:To contributeto the management process within the Trust through participation in planning,projector liaise on groups as appropriate.

Qualifications
* FRCOphth or equivalent
* Full GMC registration
* On the specialist register, or within 6 months of CSST at the time of interview.
* MD or equivalent Higher Degree.

* Ability to run independent cataract lists
* Experience of supervision of Ophthalmology trainees
* Evidence of logical thinking and an ability to make clear and balanced decisions
* Demonstrate an understanding of the development needs of trainees and how these can be met
