Locum Resident Doctor (General Medicine/A&E) (Ref: 241870)
Full‑time: 40 hours per week
Fixed term: from August 2026
Post duration: 6 or 12‑month posts available
Salary: £49,217 to £65,112 per annum (pro rata), plus banding supplement
Relocation allowance: up to £4,000 for a 12‑month post
Distant Islands Allowance: £2,578 per annum (pro rata)
Based at the Gilbert Bain Hospital in Lerwick, this post suits doctors who have just completed FY2 training or a core medical trainee waiting for an ST‑R position, or a GP trainee who has completed training and is seeking further medical/A&E experience. Full GMC registration with a current licence to practice is essential for these roles.
Responsibilities
* Ward work providing continuity of care for admitted patients
* Assessment of acute unselected emergency medical patients presenting to A&E (including paediatric review)
* General medical clinic experience
* Night shifts involve three or four nights at a time covering surgical and medical A&E, as well as the wards
