The role is to manage professional indemnity circumstances and claims against the firm effectively. We would be looking for someone to join our London based team on a full time basis. About the role Work with the firm’s PI & Claims Partner, rest of the PI & Claims team and, where appropriate, with the Firm’s General Counsel. In this role, you can expect to get involved in a variety of work including: Handle circumstances and claims and their notification under CMNO LLP’s PI policies (and, if appropriate, Cyber policies), including discussion with the relevant partners and fee earners, determining whether or not a notification is appropriate and then liaising with insurers and brokers as appropriate to ensure that proper notification of claims and circumstances is made in compliance with the terms of the firm's insurance policies; Determine the appropriate strategy for managing circumstances or claims - in discussion with relevant partners, external solicitors (if instructed) and insurers - to ensure a satisfactory resolution from the point of view both of insurers and the firm, taking into account the firm's liability exposure and the client relationship. Includes determining appropriate application of the firm’s internal guidance on own interest conflicts; Consider, for feedback to the firm’s separate Risk Team, what lessons can be learnt from the firm’s claims experience and identify/assist to implement appropriate system and working practice improvements to reduce risk of future PI issues; Conduct analysis of insurance notifications to identify trends and issues, report on these and ensure that key messages are shared with practice group managers and professional support lawyers appropriately to manage the firm's risk profile; Potentially assist the COLP (the GC) to handle regulatory matters and/or self-reports to our regulator effectively so as to ensure that the firm complies with its professional obligations and that matters are resolved with a satisfactory resolution from the point of view both of insurers and the firm. Handle their notification to and liaison with PI insurers where appropriate; Assist with preparation for the annual PI renewal processes as appropriate. Keep abreast of both legal and market developments on PI issues, attending networking events and seminars as appropriate to ensure that the firm is up to date in its thinking and approach on PI claims matters. Assist with conducting appropriate internal PI training to ensure that awareness of negligence causes and claims within the firm is high. Where appropriate, to assist partners and fee earners with requests for copy papers in accordance with the Law Society’s guidance on File Ownership. Our opportunities are open to all suitably qualified applicants, so to be considered for this role, you must meet the following skills and experience: 7 yrs/ PQE, including Solicitors’ PI defence experience. Solicitors’ PI coverage and wording experience would also be helpful. Plus, experience of handling Cyber claims. Experience of handling PI claims against large UK law firm(s), whether as part of an in-house PI & Claims team, a fee earning insurance group, a Solicitors’ PI insurer, or a PI broker. Thorough understanding of the SRA Codes of Conduct 2019. Understanding of uses and challenges of AI in solicitors’ fee earning, plus potential impact on causes of, and handling of, PI claims.
