We are seeking a motivated and experienced Tax Manager to help lead and manage our tax team.

As Tax Manager, you will be responsible for the administration and general operations of the department, together with helping to develop and implement the team's strategic objectives.

You will also manage a portfolio of high value clients, setting the standards for client delivery and satisfaction. Ideally, you will be newly qualified or have 1-2 years of post-qualification experience and have direct management experience, preferably of a small or medium-sized team.

You will be comfortable taking full ownership and control of a portfolio of valuable corporate clients and have good experience in a wide range of tax compliance services, along with exposure to tax advisory and certain aspects of international tax matters.

The role will require you to play an important part in the management team of the department, contributing towards the personal growth and development of individuals who are either part-qualified or working towards their qualification.

The role requires strong organisation and project management skills and a detailed, up-to-date knowledge of UK taxes to educate and develop the team effectively.

Key Accountabilities

1. Help lead and deliver department meetings, including setting agendas, facilitating discussions to suitable conclusions, fostering a positive collaborative team environment, and delegating tasks.
2. Develop expertise in a specific tax area or specialism, helping to enhance departmental knowledge and providing guidance to colleagues.
3. Take ownership of appropriate UK corporate tax compliance reviews, ensuring accuracy of tax calculations, managing risk, making effective decisions, and maintaining compliance standards.
4. Drive commercial performance by identifying and implementing new opportunities for additional billing, special projects, and contributing to departmental sales targets.
5. Build strong relationships with other departments, promoting effective cross-departmental client service, collaboration, and problem-solving on complex challenges.
6. Contribute to new business proposals and prepare accurate, tailored engagement letters for new client opportunities.
7. Review corporation tax and VAT returns before sending to clients.
8. Review payroll-related year-end filings (STBV, P11Ds, PSAs, ERS returns).
9. Assist and lead on special project work, liaising with seniors when appropriate.
10. Manage the compliance for a portfolio of clients, acting as the main point of contact.
11. Manage WIP and billing for your portfolio of clients.
12. Ensure ongoing training and development, keeping CPD records up to date.
13. Complete accurate timesheets and work efficiently within set budgets.
14. Review and approve timesheets for reporting lines.

Knowledge & Experience

1. Professionally qualified with ICAEW, ACCA, or CTA.
2. Excellent UK tax knowledge and ability to share that knowledge with the team.
3. Experience working with senior individuals employed by clients.
4. Strong UK corporate tax experience, including complex compliance issues like CIR, R&D tax credits, and share schemes.
5. International experience with tax treaties, withholding issues, transfer pricing.
6. Ability to manage a client portfolio commercially, including time and cost management, contributing to sales targets, and achieving personal goals.
7. Proactive in taking responsibility for clients and developing personal networks.
8. Ability to work under pressure and handle client service issues.
9. Capable of meeting statutory deadlines and assisting colleagues in doing so.
10. Team player with the ability to work as part of a management team.
