We’re looking for a driven and curious journalist to join The Drum as a Creative Reporter on a 12-month contract, covering maternity leave. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a high-profile role and gain real exposure at the heart of the global creative industry.
As a Creative Reporter, you’ll lead our day-to-day editorial coverage of the creative sector, breaking exclusive stories, setting the agenda within your beat, and delivering sharp, insightful analysis on the trends shaping the industry. You’ll be the voice of The Drum in this space, building strong relationships with key players while maintaining our reputation for quality, accuracy and influence.
We’re looking for someone who can uncover what’s really happening in the industry, tell compelling stories, and bring fresh perspectives that stand out from the crowd. You’ll regularly interview leading figures, write our daily Ad of the Day feature, contribute to newsletters, and collaborate closely with our social and distribution teams to amplify your work.
This role is ideal for a reporter with a strong track record in news and analysis, excellent writing skills, and the confidence to represent The Drum across platforms, from articles and newsletters to panels, podcasts and on-camera appearances.
The position is open to candidates based in Glasgow, London, or Miami (US), where we have staff presence, offering a unique chance to grow your profile, expand your network, and make a real impact in a fast-moving, creative newsroom.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Proactively finding and writing exclusive stories on the Creative sector
2. Write The Drum’s daily Ad of the Day feature
3. Regular interviews with leading figures in the creative industries
4. Producing timely and considered analysis on topical trends and developments
5. Commissioning, editing, and providing feedback on contributed content where required
6. Writing and editing a weekly email and LinkedIn newsletter
7. Working with our social media executive and distribution team to promote your stories on The Drum’s key channels
8. Frequently calling and meeting key contacts to uncover what’s really happening in the industry
9. Supporting colleagues from other teams with your specialist expertise, growing your presence within The Drum and contributing to wider company efforts
10. Continuously honing your network to build your reputation as the go-to industry journalist
11. Appearing on camera, panels and podcasts for The Drum to share your knowledge and bring attention to your reporting.
Requirements
12. Track record of writing impactful news and analysis
13. Able to unearth strong stories and identify timely trends
14. Can write engaging, clean copy to a high standard and to deadline
15. Can communicate confidently inside and outside the business
16. Finds fresh ways of digging into the industry’s biggest issues and standing out from rival coverage
17. Understanding of social media platforms, using them to find contacts, distribute content and enhance reputation
