The Catering Ward Host(ess) Manager is responsible for the operational leadership of Ward Host Supervisors, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, patient-focused food and beverage service across the hospital.
This role will primarily involve weekend working, plus one additional weekday, with flexible shift times between 8:00am and 6:00pm. Based at the Royal Derby Hospital, you will be part of a busy catering operation serving approximately 1,100 patients per service, supported by a Ward Host/Hostess team of around 150 staff.
The post holder will ensure compliance with ISS and Trust standards and policies, including HACCP, while driving service excellence, maintaining a safe working environment, and leading teams to consistently meet quality, hygiene, and performance expectations.
The Role
1. Leadership & Staff Management: Provide effective line management, including performance management, training, and ongoing support to Ward Host Supervisors and teams.
2. Operational Management: Oversee the planning and delivery of food and beverage services, monitoring daily performance to ensure service standards are met.
3. Quality, Compliance & Governance: Ensure full compliance with health & safety, food hygiene, and Trust policies, leading audits, inspections, and investigations as required.
4. Patient Experience & Engagement: Promote a patient-first culture, ensuring high levels of service and satisfaction.
5. Service Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to enhance productivity, efficiency, and service quality.
6. Financial & Resource Management: Support budget control, procurement processes, and the effective use of resources.
About You
7. Experience supervising or managing multi-disciplinary teams.
8. Understanding of catering or Soft FM services.
9. Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
10. Ability to work within clinical environments and handle sensitive situations professionally.
11. Knowledge of health & safety, food safety, and infection control requirements.
