In line with WASTs changes to the clinical response model, and to support the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives (AACE) Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) and Health Inequalities Report (2024), a 15-month secondment opportunity has become available for an existing Senior Paramedic to carry out a resuscitation review.
The post is funded by NHS Charities together whose aim is to reduce health inequalities and variance in resuscitation provision across the United Kingdom.
The role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a skilled and innovative clinical leadership team committed to delivery high quality pre-hospital care across Wales. The successful applicant will provide clinical oversight, feedback and the development of reports that support the improvement in resuscitation practice.
Main duties of the job
Some of the key responsibilities are:
* Assist the Clinical Lead for Acute Care in the production of an OOHCA annual report for the service
* Completion of reports on each event to show compliance, highlight good practice and escalation of any issues.
* Collection of survival data to demonstrate survival at hospital and at 30 days post event
* Review each resuscitation attempted by WAST clinicians to ensure that best practice is being carried out and providing feedback to staff.
* Utilise knowledge and experience of de-briefing events utilising the ICICLE review of ePCR.
To note:
This post is a 15-month secondment open to all existing Senior Paramedics within the Trust with level 7 education or working towards. This post attracts 0% of unsocial hours, however the successful candidate will be afforded 20% clinical time to ensure they maintain clinical competency, but this clinical time cannot accrue unsocial hours payments.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential criteria
* A degree level of education (in relevant subject), or equivalent demonstrable experience
* HCPC Registered Paramedic including up to date completion of the band 5-6 competencies.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to handle complex and potentially contentious situations
* Ability to work flexibly in an environment where the work pattern is unpredictable and requiring frequent periods of concentration to meet objectives to tight deadlines
* Effective team player
* Ability to work autonomously to agreed objectives with minimum supervision
* Well-developed negotiating and influencing skills
* Able to assess risks, anticipate difficulties and successfully address them
* Committed to and understands the benefit of staff engagement and interaction
Desirable criteria
* In possession of or willingness to undertake level 6/7 education aligned to role objectives (clinical leadership) within an agreed timeframe
* Knowledge and understanding of current health and social care agenda
* Ability to speak Welsh
* Trained to undertake ‘ISCLE’ Clinical Reviews
