An exciting opportunity to join our Accountancy Teams to play a pivotal role in delivering key financial information to the Council's decision makers and stakeholders.
As a Unitary Authority we provide all council services to residents, businesses and visitors which means the role can be varied.
We are looking for motivated individuals who will enjoy working with service managers to ensure these services are of the highest quality and delivered within the financial framework.
This role will be supporting our innovative and forward thinking children and education directorate which provides services across children's social care, education, SEND & schools, and has been graded outstanding in all areas in its recent Ofsted inspection.
Reporting to the Children's Services Finance Manager, you will be experienced in budget setting and monitoring, preparation of accounts, financial modelling, options appraisal and the methods of providing the financial information needed to enable service managers to make informed decisions. You will be working with budget holders who will expect a flexible and supportive approach in a devolved financial management environment. You will also need technical accounting skills and lead a team of finance professionals to ensure key deadlines are met.
To be suitable for this role you will ideally be a qualified accountant who is able to establish positive and influential working relationships with colleagues across the Council. Experience of Local Government Accounting is desirable, but we would welcome applicants from other finance backgrounds and will provide training and support where necessary.
The post is classed as a "Hybrid Worker" making the role attractive not only to local candidates but also those who may live outside of the average commuting distance as you will be expected to work flexibly from home as well as at our award winning offices in central York.
This role is suitable as a job share opportunity.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
Please note, we do not have a sponsorship licence to sponsor individuals for visas to work in the UK, therefore we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role.
The Council is committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.
