Assistant Rail Manager – Mendip Rail (South Aggregates Region)
Location: Whatley, Frome

What you’ll be doing
* Supporting the Regional Rail Manager in delivering the South region rail strategy.
* Liaising with rail freight partners, depots, and commercial teams to forecast demand and optimise train movements.
* Coordinating train orders across depots and quarries to ensure efficient service delivery.
* Identifying opportunities to increase rail utilisation, reduce road haulage, and lower CO₂ emissions.
* Managing relationships with third‑party rail depots and overseeing day‑to‑day rail operations.
* Reviewing and approving monthly rail recharges, ensuring accuracy and cost control.
* Supporting health & safety improvements related to rail movements across sites.
* Assisting in wagon fleet optimisation and capacity planning with Mendip Rail.
