Job Description: We are looking for a Negotiations Officer to join our Public Services team based in our London Victoria office. In this role, you will be responsible for executing individual casework and supporting members and branches predominantly in the civil service by ensuring successful outcomes through providing individual and collective representation This role will also see you building and maintaining effective branch relationships, memberships and structures.
The ideal candidate will have a strong experience and understanding of collective labour law, contemporary industrial relations and a passion for working for a Trade Union.
Key Responsibilities:
1. This role will support and advise members and branches to meet their needs and ensure successful outcomes through providing individual and collective representation.
2. You will also be involved in working in our Public Services team to lead formal negotiations, with lay representatives and potentially other trade unions, for example on pay and consultations around changes in the workplace.
3. You will help the union grow by strengthening and supporting collective bargaining, dealing effectively with personal casework, building, and maintaining effective and resilient branch relationships and structures.
4. Helping to identify, train and develop representatives and contributing to our Sectoral campaigning and networking activities will also play a large part in this position.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
5. Strong communication skills with ability to influence.
6. Good knowledge and understanding of employment law, holding an employment law qualifi cation or demonstrable equivalent experience.
7. Experience in and comfortable demonstrating leadership and taking ownership in a calm and professional manner in difficult circumstances.
8. Previous experience developing branch capabilities for organisation, driving successful campaigns and providing support and advocacy for members.
9. Demonstrate strong planning, organising, analytical and problem-solving skills.
10. Knowledge of/background in the trade union movement.
11. Good knowledge of pensions and health and safety.
12. Good knowledge of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).
13. Ability to work in a team environment supporting colleagues through working flexibly and sharing
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
14. Proficient in use of Microsoft Office applications including; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams/MS Project (or equivalent).
