Job overview
Liverpool University Dental Hospital provides dental care across all specialties through undergraduate, postgraduate and specialist service activity. Applications are invited for the post of Registered Dental Nurse. Applicants must be registered with the General Dental Council and hold a recognised dental nurse qualification. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with excellent clinical and communication skills.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Recording of treatment and associated clerical work.
* Preparation of filling materials, impression materials, instruments, equipment, dressings and syringes.
* Maintain infection prevention and control in the treatment area.
* Clearing away used instruments and materials after treatment.
* Assisting with medical emergencies in line with GDC scope of practice.
* Assisting with investigations (e.g., X-ray procedures, blood tests, bacteriological tests).
* Receiving patients for emergency treatment and triaging as appropriate.
* Providing pre- and post-operative instructions and ensuring understanding by patients.
* Care and maintenance of dental equipment.
* Assisting with all methods of treatment and surgical procedures; capable of working in other hospital areas when necessary.
* Communicating with other departments to arrange follow-up treatment.
* Maintaining stock, checking expiry dates, and re-ordering as necessary.
* Providing cover for absent colleagues when required.
* Following all organisation policies and procedures.

Qualifications
* Registrable Dental Nurse qualification or NVQ Level III in Oral Healthcare
* Must be registered with the General Dental Council as a Dental Care Professional
* Evidence of ongoing CPD
* Further qualifications in basic first aid, health & safety, manual handling
Experience
* Demonstrable recent experience of working as part of a dental team
* Experience in a hospital setting
Knowledge
* Interest in oral health promotion
* Up-to-date knowledge of the NHS as it relates to dentistry
* Knowledge of new strategies in dentistry
