PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced multimedia journalist to create social media and digital video content for the BBC in the North East and Cumbria. Our social media platforms are vital in helping us to reach and interact with people who don’t get their local news from broadcast media. This role primarily involves self‑shooting and editing video, repurposing audio and TV content, and producing daily posts to promote our stories on our social feeds.
Here you will work closely with the wider teams in digital, TV and audio, and collaborate with reporters to create explainers and adapt content into engaging social formats.

* You will be confident at pitching new ideas and creative treatments on the day’s news stories, and be able to produce a constant stream of original stories to self‑shoot and edit for multiple platforms across the North East and Cumbria news patch.
* You will script, produce and edit video – guiding correspondents and reporters to deliver in a way that works for social media audiences.
* You will post links, graphics, photos and reels on our social media feeds daily and use social listening to source stories.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* A journalism qualification – NCTJ or equivalent – is essential for this role and experience of working in a newsroom.
* Demonstrated confidence in digital storytelling, with the ability to film and edit content that works well across different digital platforms.
* Proficiency in Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere or other video editing software.
* A good understanding of media law and the BBC’s editorial guidelines.
