Are you an experienced enforcement professional looking for a new challenge within a dynamic and supportive working environment? The Public Protection Service Trading Standards Team is part of the Public Protection Partnership, a shared service covering West Berkshire, Bracknell Forest and Wokingham Councils, hosted by West Berkshire Council. The team is seeking an Enforcement Officer (Age Restricted Products) to join our dedicated team, working alongside the Trading Standards Officers to deliver high-quality enforcement services to our local community.
Responsibilities
* Conducting inspections and test purchasing to assess compliance with age restriction legislation
* Investigating complaints and breaches of regulations, gathering evidence and preparing case files
* Providing advice and guidance to businesses on legal requirements
* Taking appropriate enforcement action, including issuing warnings, penalties, and prosecutions
* Collaborating with other enforcement agencies and participating in joint operations
* Maintaining accurate records and producing reports on enforcement activities
Qualifications and attributes
* Experience working in a similar enforcement role, ideally within a Trading Standards or regulatory environment
* Sound knowledge of legislation relating to age restricted products, including tobacco and nicotine inhaling products
* Proven ability to conduct inspections, investigations, and evidence gathering
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide advice to businesses and handle difficult conversations
* Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage a varied caseload and prioritise effectively
* Team player with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners
* Driving licence and willingness to travel within the local area
Notes
Please note this role is fixed term for a year after start date – funding limited project.
