Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding team in the fight to tackle serious and organised crime in the UK waste industry. In this Senior Environmental Crime Officer role, as the Lead Responsible Officer, you would be responsible and accountable for disrupting and dismantling organised crime groups using a 4P approach. You will work with subject matter specialists and partner agencies to achieve this, and chair multi-agency meetings to drive disruption.

This is a challenging & varied role. You will conduct multi-agency operations, gather evidence, undertake overt and covert investigations, prepare case files for court, and challenge permit applications. The role also involves delivering interventions to prevent, disrupt, and enforce against those engaged in serious and organised crime.

The Environment Agency is fully committed to having an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We seek diversity, embrace it, and live it for the benefit of our staff, communities, and the environment. All new starters will receive comprehensive training and support, including equipment needed for the role.

As this is a national role, regular pre-planned travel and occasional overnight stays are expected. The main enforcement hub is in Birmingham, where attendance is occasionally required to maintain visibility, develop investigations, or attend meetings.

The team, The Joint Unit for Waste Crime (JUWC), is a multi-agency taskforce working in partnership to tackle serious and organised waste crime across the UK. It comprises 11 enforcement organizations and 2 industry partners. For more information, visit our website or LinkedIn.

Experience/Skills Required

* Background in environmental regulation, intelligence-led enforcement, or investigations, with experience working with partner organizations such as police, local authorities, or other government agencies.
* Experience handling sensitive intelligence to identify potential lines of enquiry and knowledge of legislation governing criminal investigations.
* A full UK driver’s license is required.
* Vetting for SC Security Clearance and NPPV2 is necessary.

Desirable:

* Experience working within an intelligence-led environment, communicating with legal professionals and enforcement agencies.
