What will I be doing as an Asbestos Analyst Apprentice?
Kova Asbestos Consultants offers an opportunity to earn a salary while studying for a nationally recognised qualification through our Level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship.
As a Trainee Asbestos Analyst, you'll receive comprehensive on-the-job training and guidance from experienced analysts. Your journey begins with shadowing professionals and progresses through structured training. You will:
* Travel to various sites across the UK to perform air sampling, fibre counting, and 4 Stage Clearance testing using membrane filter methods and phase contrast microscopy, in accordance with HSG 248.
Due to the field-based nature of this role, you must hold a Full Driving License and be able to reliably commute to sites within 45 minutes.
What could the future look like?
There is no limit to what you can achieve with Kova Asbestos Consultants. Successful apprentices have the potential to secure full-time positions and develop careers in industries such as construction, engineering, aerospace, automotive, or research and development. The apprenticeship serves as a stepping stone toward a career in Asbestos Analysis, with opportunities to become a registered Technician (RSci Tech) and pursue further educational qualifications like the Level 6 BSc in Applied Materials Science.
Your dedication will be recognized and rewarded.
What will you bring?
About you
This is a practical, hands-on role. You should be willing to learn from the start, focused, careful, and results-oriented. Good attention to detail, health and safety awareness, and the ability to work within strict safety guidelines are essential. Experience with tools and technical equipment is beneficial. Comfort with using computers, especially Excel, is important. As the role involves working at different sites and meeting new people daily, confident communication skills and a positive team attitude are crucial. Enthusiasm, collaboration, and a strong desire to learn are key to success.
Note: You must hold a valid UK Driving License, be willing to drive to different sites daily, be 18+, and able to perform occasional heavy lifting.
Qualifications
We value enthusiasm and a proactive attitude over formal academic results. The ideal candidate is motivated to learn, self-reflective, considerate, and eager to develop in the sector.
Experience
Previous experience is welcome but not essential. We seek individuals with the right attitude and aptitude to fit into our team.
How does the apprenticeship work?
Over 21 months, you'll dedicate at least 6 hours per week to 'off-the-job' training, including virtual lessons, online learning, shadowing, mentoring, and assignments. This will lead to a Level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship. You'll be trained by experts from Tiro and Kova, developing the skills and work habits needed for a successful career. As an apprentice, you'll gain practical experience that complements theoretical learning, earning a salary without student debt. More details are available in the apprenticeship standards here.
Eligibility
To qualify, you must be over 18, not in full-time education, have lived in the UK for at least 3 years, and have the right to work in the UK. If you do not meet these criteria yet, please express your interest, and we will contact you to discuss further.
