Overview
The Estates Hard FM Team manages day-to-day repairs, PPM and operational testing for building services and equipment at the Trust. We are recruiting a Health and Safety Advisor to act as the focal point for fire, health and safety matters with accountability for fire safety reporting to the Site Director of Estates and Facilities Management.
You will provide proactive, collaborative health and safety guidance focused on fire safety, support compliance with NHS Health Technical Memorandum 05:01 (HTM05:01) and maintain appropriate fire precautions across Trust premises. You will foster relationships with the Local Fire Brigade and other stakeholders. You will be the designated competent person for fire safety, ensuring compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO).
As a Health and Safety Advisor, you will work with internal teams and external partners to maintain a safe hospital environment for patients, staff and visitors, supporting the Trust’s commitment to care and well-being.
Responsibilities
The Health and Safety Advisor acts as the focal point for all Health and Safety matters within the organisation, reporting to the Royal London Hospital and Mile End Hospital Director of Estates and Facilities Management via the Fire, Health and Safety Manager (with fire and health and safety responsibility).
* Provide competent advice and maintain high levels of safety provisions within Trust premises in line with HASAWA 1974, NHS HTMs, BS and ACOPs under relevant legal requirements.
* Act as the competent person for health and safety to ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act and related legislation.
* Collaborate with hospital teams and external partners to sustain a safe environment and support care and well-being in relation to Health and Safety.

Essential Qualifications
* NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management or equivalent (or working towards with a minimum 10 years’ experience)
* Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
* Member of a relevant professional body (e.g., IOSH Chartered)
* Qualification in Risk Assessment and/or Health and Safety Regulations
* Excellent working knowledge of current health and safety legislation
Desirable Qualifications
* Degree in Occupational Health and Safety
* Qualified/experienced Training instructor
Essential Experience
* Significant experience providing expert health and safety advice to the Trust Board and staff across departments
* Experience of risk assessments in a healthcare environment
* Experience with Capital Projects teams/contractors for new builds or refurbishments
* Knowledge of NHS health and safety practices and risk management processes
Desirable Experience
* Experience with Environmental Agency or HSE
* Understanding of healthcare planning and standards
* Chartered status with IOSH
* Knowledge of CQC health and safety requirements
Knowledge
* Demonstrable knowledge of HTM/HBN guidance and national health and safety standards
* Familiar with HTM, HBN, IEE EN, British Standards, Fire code and ACOPs
* Strong understanding of current legislation and NHS guidance
Skills
* Ability to carry out safety audits and risk assessments
* Judgment and application of complex legislation and ACOPs to benefit the Trust
* Develop and deliver safety training across the Trust
