Role details:
Our client, a leader in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a Contract Equipment Proving Engineer to join their dynamic team in Stevenage. This opportunity is crucial for shaping innovative RF module designs and involves both hands-on testing and characterisation of complex systems. The role requires a blend of RF design knowledge, SimuLink, and MATLAB skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with systems and RF design engineers to understand functional and performance requirements and translate them into a suitable test approach.
2. Develop MATLAB code or other options to automatically characterise & verify Equipment Under Test.
3. Create bespoke test tools, including hardware rigs and automated test frameworks.
4. Develop and maintain verification procedures, test cases, and acceptance criteria in collaboration with systems, software, hardware, and firmware teams.
5. Conduct proving activities in a laboratory environment to verify and characterise equipment performance and functions.
6. Analyse and interpret test data, investigating anomalies and working with design teams to identify root causes.
7. Prepare clear, concise, and technically robust evidence to support equipment design verification.
8. Support design reviews and stakeholder engagements with test findings and technical insight.
9. Contribute to the continuous improvement of proving processes, tools, and methods.
10. Engage with the design teams and stakeholders through reviews and frequent interactions.
Job Requirements:
11. Experience in MATLAB / SimuLink test harness code writing or programming with structured techniques.
12. Proficiency in constructing equipment module bench rigs with test equipment and computer-driven test scenarios using MATLAB or other programming languages.
13. Ability to interpret equipment requirements accurately.
14. Competence in synthetic data and signal injection.
15. Proficiency in MS Office, capable of writing procedures, diagrams, plans, and documenting code & test setups.
Experience Advantageous & Developed in the Role:
16. Use of RF-based lab test-equipment.
17. Understanding and interpretation of Functional Interface Descriptions.
18. Experience in integration activities: testing with multiple equipment modules.
19. Familiarity with environmental chamber testing (including electromagnetic compatibility, thermal).
20. Ability to read system schematics, electrical diagrams & equipment circuit diagrams.
21. Development of tests that exercise as much of the hardware, software, and firmware as possible.
22. Familiarity with tools such as SAP, PLM/Windchill, DOORS NG/ETM, Rhapsody, Jira.
23. Awareness of Model-Based System Engineering processes and methods, including requirements, modelling, and simulation, and how they relate to integration and verification methods.
