About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking a P&C Design Engineer to join their Power T&D team in Newcastle or Leeds. The role involves engineering control and protection designs for electrical substation projects, requiring extensive knowledge of electrical engineering applications, power system technologies, and protection systems.
The engineer should have comprehensive knowledge of protection and control systems for high voltage power transmission, experience in interpreting diagrams and drawings, and familiarity with standards and quality assurance. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are essential. Detailed roles and responsibilities are provided in the attached appendix.
What you'll be doing
General Responsibilities:
* Contribute to the development and training of the Design Team according to skill levels and experience.
Planning Responsibilities:
* Coordinate contract requirements with project stakeholders upon contract award.
* Establish design content and resources to meet project timelines.
* Control and report on progress, estimating completion and highlighting resource issues.
* Report scope variations to management.
Procurement Responsibilities:
* Coordinate equipment and material specifications with departments.
* Prepare instructions for materials and tools for procurement approval.
* Specify test certificates and manuals as part of technical specifications.
Design Responsibilities:
* Ensure compliance with standards and client requirements.
* Review contract documentation and establish scope of work.
* Participate in design reviews and close-out meetings.
* Coordinate with designers and draughtspersons.
* Conduct engineering checks as necessary.
* Organize preparation of installation and commissioning packages.
* Ensure accurate final records with site drawings and documentation.
* Identify and resolve design issues.
Who we're looking for
Education:
* HNC in Electrical Engineering or higher.
Experience:
* Experience liaising with customers and suppliers.
* Design and specification of electrical power systems.
* Ability to perform calculations to validate designs.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
