What you'll be doing
Balfour Beatty Living Places has created an exciting opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Living Places business unit in Lincoln.
Role Purpose
An experienced Senior QS with a proven track record in managing all costs related to building and civil engineering projects, from initial calculations to final figures. You will aim to minimize project costs and enhance value for money while maintaining standards and quality. Typically, you will be a Chartered Member of the RICS, ICES, or CIOB. You should also have experience managing a small team of less experienced commercial staff and mentoring others towards professional qualification.
Main Responsibilities:
* Order information and systematically check data.
* Critically appraise, estimate, and negotiate with third parties.
* Review complex contract programmes such as Time-Location.
* Assist with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes.
* Monitor subcontract activities, measure, and respond appropriately.
* Analyze commercial progress and report to senior project staff.
* Manage commercial aspects with customers and stakeholders.
* Prepare procurement programmes and develop strategies.
* Analyze rates & prices, agree on variations or compensation events.
* Prepare, submit, and negotiate claims as needed.
* Prepare internal reports, track commercial progress, and perform financial reconciliation.
* Manage HR/People aspects for direct and indirect reports.
* Support the development of others, including mentoring.
* Develop team plans to achieve goals.
* Support recruitment of lower grades.
* Undertake constructability analyses using construction programmes.
Qualifications and Experience:
* BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience.
* Membership of RICS, ICES, or CIOB (or working towards).
