They deliver targeted complex assessment, intervention and support for the most vulnerable school‑aged children and families, particularly those affected by health inequalities and poverty. They contribute to early prevention and promotion through health education. Working through the Getting it Right Practice Model, and as a named health partner to the plan for children and young people, the school nursing service is universally accessible and provides targeted support across ten priority areas set by the Scottish Government. School nurses are responsible for delegating work to other members of the school nursing team to coordinate care, and for providing leadership within health assessment and care planning.
