Condition Monitoring Engineer (Route‑Based)
Location: Sussex (hybrid working available, with travel across Southern Water sites)
Contract Type: Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Salary: Up to £48,000 dependent on experience
Additional information: A full UK driving licence is essential. A company van and tools will be provided.
About the role
As a Condition Monitoring Engineer (Route‑Based), you will play a vital role in improving the reliability, performance and sustainability of Southern Water’s assets.
You will deliver condition‑based monitoring across multiple sites, using both route‑based monitoring and fixed sensors. Your insights will help prevent failures, improve asset performance and support smarter maintenance decisions across the business.
This role suits someone who is technically strong, comfortable working independently across sites, and motivated by using data and insight to drive continuous improvement.
What you will be responsible for
1. Delivering condition‑based monitoring aligned to asset maintenance strategies.
2. Carrying out route‑based monitoring using techniques such as vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound emission and oil analysis.
3. Recording and reporting condition monitoring findings through our asset management system.
4. Analysing data to identify trends, risks and potential equipment failures.
5. Producing clear corrective maintenance recommendations based on asset condition.
6. Completing root cause analysis on complex equipment failures and supporting corrective actions.
7. Continuously improving monitoring methods to enhance asset reliability and performance.
Additional role information
8. The role involves regular travel to sites across Hampshire and occasional office working.
9. Hybrid working is supported where operationally appropriate.
What you’ll bring to the role
Essential
10. Experience analysing, maintaining, managing or operating engineering assets.
11. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends.
12. Ability to plan, prioritise and manage workloads effectively.
13. Confident communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders.
14. A proactive, flexible approach and a willingness to collaborate across teams.
Desirable
15. Experience in wastewater or other regulated asset environments.
16. Understanding of reliability and predictive maintenance techniques such as Reliability‑Centred Maintenance (RCM) or Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
17. Awareness of predictive analytics, failure forecasting or data‑led maintenance tools.
Qualifications

18. Industry‑accredited training aligned to ISO 18436 standards, including:Vibration analysisInfrared imagingUltrasonic testingOil analysis
Candidates who require training will also be considered.
Desirable
19. ONC, OND or equivalent qualification in engineering, or relevant industry experience.
