Optometrist
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Optometrist to join the Hospital Optometry team on a full‑time, permanent basis at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
This post will provide valuable experience within hospital optometry working closely with our multidisciplinary team of Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists, and Nursing staff.
The role is ideal for both newly qualified and experienced Optometrists seeking to expand their clinical skills and experience within a hospital setting.
The initial duties include refraction, contact lens clinics and medical retina virtual reviewing clinics, with opportunities to develop into other roles with training and service need.
Main duties of the job
* Work in partnership with the Head of Optometry and the Optometric team to deliver core and sub‑specialist optometric services to the highest standards of quality and care for patients of Hull University Teaching Hospitals and its outreach clinics.
* Work independently whilst participating in the delivery of a wide range of core and sub‑specialist optometric services that meet the changing needs of the department and external agencies.
* Examine patients within the Medical Retina, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Contact Lens, Diabetic Eye Screening, Cataract, Corneal, Eye Casualty, Low Vision Aid, Prosthetic, Adult Refraction or Glaucoma Service as required.

Education / Qualifications
* General Optical Council registration
* Local Optical Committee participating member
* College of Optometrists registration
Knowledge, Training & Experience
* Low vision work
* Experience working with the elderly and children
* Precise manual dexterity skills
* Practical refraction, contact lens fitting and low vision aid dispensing skills.
* Contact tonometry
* Instillation of ophthalmic agents e.g. fluorescein
* Good written and verbal communication skills and ability to work independently on own initiative
* Hospital optometry experience
* Paediatric contact lenses
* Anterior segment disease assessment
* Experience of research and audit
* Managing people
* Complex contact lenses
* Interest in medical retina

* Ability to work in a busy environment with flexibility in working hours.
